This week finds the Dudok Quartet Amsterdam in residence at Aldeburgh’s Snape Maltings. They will spend the week collaborating with recorder player Erik Bosgraaf, soprano Michaela Riener and composers Josephine Stephenson and Antti Auvinen, developing a new performance project entitled “The Rape of Artemisia”. Inspired by 16th century female artist Artemisia Gentileschi, the artists will examine the famous legal battle fought by Artemisia against Agostino Tassi, who raped her at the age of 16. A Renaissance “Me Too” story, this new project will be an exploration of themes including abuse of power, seduction, violence and female artistic strength.
The artists will end the week with an “Open Session” performance on Sunday 18 August (11:00) at the Jerwood Kiln on the Snape Maltings campus:
