This week sees the Doric String Quartet commence their four-year tenures as Artistic Directors of the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival.
Held on 1 – 7 July 2018, the Festival provides young professionals in the field of string chamber music with a week of preparation and performance in which to develop their skills, while working with the established artists of the Doric Quartet in the surroundings of natural beauty that drew Mendelssohn to Scotland. This year’s Festival will see eighteen events over the week including films, lecture-recitals and concerts.
The Doric Quartet have carefully selected young performers from across the globe on the cusp of their own careers to join them in the Festival as the Quartet mentor, challenge and develop each performer. The chosen musicians include violinist Tim Crawford, cellist Alma Hernan, violinist Luke Hsu, cellist Nadja Reich, violinist Andrew Samarasekara, violinist David Shaw, violist Jean-Baptiste Souchon, violist Isidora Timotijević, violist Uilleac Whelan and The Calgary Quartet (Joy Becker, Antonia Kesel, Christine Anderson and Josh Salter).
