It was a beautifully played, superbly disciplined account that brought out the best in the orchestra and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society.

Carlos Kalmar is a conductor with a passion for introducing audiences and orchestras to less well-known repertoire. A meticulous craftsman, he knows exactly the sound, colour and shape he wants from the music and how to achieve it. Since assuming the position of Music Director with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra ten years ago he has been widely praised for raising both the musical standard and discipline of the players.
Recently Kalmar has conducted the Philadelphia, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Netherlands Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras. From next season he becomes Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor to the RTVE Orchestra and Choir in Madrid.
