Recognised as one of the greatest pianists in the world today, Grigory Sokolov has what one American critic recently called ‘a kind of pianism, musicianship and artistry one thought had vanished forever’. The depth of his approach to music, the breadth of his repertoire and the seriousness and originality of his musical interpretations, together with the precision of their execution are acclaimed by public and critics wherever he plays.
More knowledgeable of Steinways then many piano technicians, Sokolov extracts the greatest variety of sounds from the instrument. Before playing a new piano, he will examine it thoroughly, then practice for hours in order to truly understand the instrument – even on the day of a concert.
